Brighton and Hove Council has made important strides in improving outcomes for looked-after children.

Performance - Percentage of looked-after children reaching level 4 in English at Key Stage 2:

2005 Brighton and Hove 33%  England average 42%

2006 Brighton and Hove 53%  England average 43%

2007 Brighton and Hove 54%  England average 46%

2008 Brighton and Hove 56%  England average 46%

Over the past three years, Brighton and Hove has seen an impressive 70 per cent rise in the number of its looked-after children achieving level 4 English at Key Stage 2.

After only 33 per cent of the area's looked-after children achieved this result in 2005, a concerted effort to improve has put the authority 10 per cent above the national average.
