The three-year project will develop confidence and self-esteem in young men aged 14 to 20. It has been funded to the tune of 176,370 by the Teenage Pregnancy Unit in Greenwich, City Parochial Foundation and the Bridge House Trust. It will be carried out at five sites in the Greenwich area, with the youth offending team, schools, the youth service and a further education college.
The project builds on work carried out by fpa in Scotland. The young men will attend one hour-long session a week over six weeks. The aim of these sessions is to let them take charge of the discussions and eventually decide the agenda, which include topics such as negotiation skills, decision-making, peer pressure and sexual health.
