The Family Law Association said it supported a "considerable number" of measures outlined in the Family Law (Scotland) Bill introduced last week.
Scotland's deputy justice minister, Hugh Henry, said the Bill would "prevent children being used as pawns when relationships break down".
However, the Scottish Executive has not bowed to pressure to give grandparents a legal right to have contact with their grandchildren.
Instead, it will bring forward a draft charter for grandparents to recognise the role they play in the lives of their grandchildren.
