Social Care News: Scotland - Call to give adopted children moresay

Plans to reform adoption law in Scotland ignore the need of children under 12 to give their consent, MSPs were told last week.

The Scottish Parliament's Education Committee is currently examining theAdoption and Children (Scotland) Bill.

Eddie Follan, head of policy development at Children in Scotland, toldthe committee that if a child over 12 doesn't agree to a plannedadoption, that adoption wouldn't happen. As the Bill currently standschildren under 12 don't have the same legal right to object.

"We'd like to see robust discussion on this issue. There is merit inconsidering a lower age for consent," said Follan.
