Education News: Scotland - MSPs seek to ease school transition

Lessons in Scotland should be changed to make children's move from primary to secondary school easier, MSPs said last week.

A year-long inquiry by the Scottish Parliament's Education Committeeinto pupil motivation recommended giving children work that crossessubject boundaries during their first years at secondary school.

The committee's Pupil Motivation report also said teachers should begiven more opportunities to gain experience outside of education througha mixture of secondments and career breaks.

The nine MSPs on the committee also said the Scottish Executive shouldensure the success of integrated community schools in engaging parentsand children through home-school link workers continues.
