Scotland: Pupils to be given transition support

Scotland's children are to be given extra support in the transition from primary to secondary education under new plans that will allow primary teachers to work in secondary schools.

Under a programme of major reforms announced by education minister Peter Peacock on Monday (1 November), a new leadership academy for head teachers will be established by the Scottish Executive.

The Executive is also introducing a Schools of Ambition programme for schools most in need of improvement. And head teachers will have more control over their spending under plans to extend devolved management.

Scotland's schools inspectorate, HMIE, will publish a self-evaluation framework by next spring to help schools deliver integrated services.
