Scotland to create more YouthBanks

1 min read Youth Work
Work on a major expansion of YouthBanks in Scotland got under way last week.

The three-year project aims to establish an additional 30 YouthBanks in the country using £540,000 from the Big Lottery Fund Scotland's Young People's Fund.

YouthBanks, which exist across the UK, let young people give small grants to other local young people to run projects that benefit their area. A spokesman for YouthLink Scotland, which is working with YouthBank Scotland to expand the network, said the cash was an important step forward.

"We've been doing YouthBanks for a while as part of the UK scheme, but we felt the need to expand it," said the spokesman. "Capacity issues were getting in the way of more YouthBanks since you can't do these things on thin air, but now we have the money to do it."
