The National Youth Agency: A Big Idea - young people help to decidewho gets the lottery cash

1 min read

Following the tendering process, the fund has appointed YouthBank UK as a service provider for England's Grants to Organisations strand of its new Young People's Fund programme. YouthBank UK's responsibilities will include facilitating the Regional Grant panels, ensuring participation of young people with grant-making experience and providing training. Young people will have a direct say on where money is spent in their local areas by being part of decision-making panels, as well as the projects and bids.

This approach acknowledges the stated principle at the heart of the Young People's Fund - that young people should be involved at every stage - and the YouthBank UK idea that where there is money meant for young people, then they themselves should be involved in deciding how to spend it. YouthBank UK has developed the programme's tools and training using their six years' experience of young person-led grant-making. It will be supporting the process by ensuring that everyone takes an active part and learns from the experience.
