Peacock, 54, had been education minister since May 2003. In a letter to first minister Jack McConnell, he wrote: "It has become increasingly apparent that a ministerial lifestyle is not conductive to either promoting or maintaining my health."
Henry was previously serving as deputy justice minister. His responsibilities include the development of the country's first youth work strategy, expected next spring, and the children's services bill, expected in draft form by the end of next month.
