First Minister Jack McConnell, in his address to the Scottish Parliament in its first day back after the summer recess, said that during the term the Executive would introduce a new Family Law Bill, a Prevention of Female Genital Mutilation Bill, and a Protection of Children and Prevention of Sexual Offences Bill.
It will also introduce a Housing Bill, and push forward with its School Education (Ministerial Powers and Independent Schools) Bill, which is already in progress.
McConnell also committed to continuing the reform of child protection processes.
He said: "Children may not have votes, or the loudest voices, but our obligation to them is all the greater because of that."
