ENGLAND
All schools must have their own complaints procedure. Some will use policies developed by their own local authority. That policy must inform parents how the procedure works.
Initially, there are efforts to resolve complaints informally with the child's teacher. If this fails it will go to the headteacher, then the governing body. If parents are still not happy they can take their case to the local authority if it refers to certain issues such as a member of staff in a council-run school.
If the parent accuses the school of acting unlawfully, then it can be referred to the Secretary of State. Parents can complain to Ofsted but it will only look at an issue affecting the school as a whole.
