Roundup: Balls to speak at conference

1 min read
Children's Secretary Ed Balls is among speakers lined up for 4Children's annual conference next month. Key topics at the two-day event on 2 and 3 April in London include integrating services for younger and older children. www.4Children.org.uk/annualconference2009

Eighteen councils completed the rollout of children's centres ahead of the government's 2010 deadline. A survey of nearly 1,500 families, found 78 per cent were aware of their local centre and 45 per cent had used it. Satisfaction levels were high but many parents were not aware of the health services on offer. www.dcsf.gov.uk/research

A series of regional events on the government's vision for 21st-century schools got under way in February with more planned this month. www.livegroup.co.uk/childrensplanevents

ContinYou's annual conference is on 23 and 24 March in Stratford-upon-Avon and will focus on tackling the inequality gap. Speakers include Olympic swimmer Steve Parry. Paralympian Chris Holmes will not be speaking at the event, as was reported in last month's InPractice. www.continyou.org.uk
