The government has said individual schools must work more closely with young people, parents, other schools, further education, and children's services in its vision for "world-class education". It wants views on how its vision for 21st-century schools can be achieved. www.dcsf.gov.uk/consultations

The challenge of delivering sustainable children's centres, extended schools and youth services will be tackled at a conference organised by 4Children. The event is on 24 February in London. 020 7522 6970.

Mansfield has become the first district to achieve the Investing in Volunteers UK quality standard for its children's centres. The award recognises commitment to volunteering. Mansfield's six centres are run by Nottinghamshire County Council, some in partnership with Family Action.

The National Children's Bureau is to host a conference to explore how effective collaboration between the public, voluntary and private sectors can strengthen services for children and families. The event is on 17 February in London. www.ncb.org.uk
