In Practice: MPs assess Sure Start

1 min read
An influential group of MPs began listening to evidence in an inquiry into children's centres last month.

The Children, Schools and Families Committee will look at the development of Sure Start and the children's centre programme and examine whether centres help combat deprivation. www.parliament.uk/parliamentary_committees/csf.cfm.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families is gathering evidence to inform new guidance to help settings such as schools and children's centres work with parents. Researchers want to hear practitioners' experiences of engaging parents. For more information, go to the Parental Engagement - Call for Evidence document at www.dcsf.gov.uk.

- Schools and children's centres are being encouraged to take on apprentices aged 16 to 25 after the government announced funding for 4,500 new places. - www.apprenticeships.org.uk
