THE CHALLENGE
With national targets putting pressure on local authorities to slash the numbers of teenage pregnancies, councils are having to find new ways to tackle the problem.
Gloucestershire County Council has adopted a multi-agency approach to its Teenage Pregnancy Strategy to reduce the number of young women falling pregnant. The idea is to ensure support is consistent across all services.
Leisa Taylor, the sexual health co-ordinator at Gloucestershire Youth Service, says: "The multi-agency work really is important. We need to make sure the help is there for young people. The services need to be provided without stigmatising the young people, otherwise they just won't seek help."
