What it is: The EMI Music Sound Foundation was established as an independent music education charity in 1997 to celebrate the centenary of EMI Records. Its aim is to improve young people's access to music education in the UK and Ireland. While the foundation shares the EMI name, it is independently governed.

How much is on offer: There are three channels through which people canreceive help from the foundation, each offering differing levels ofassistance.

The foundation will sponsor the transformation of schools intoperforming arts or music colleges. It also awards more than 100,000 a year to music students, teachers and non-specialist schools inthe UK, and gives 5,000 bursaries to students at seven musiccolleges to assist students each year.

What it will fund: The improvement of music education, with a focus onyouth. For teachers, funding is available for training andnon-specialist schools can apply for assistance in purchasinginstruments, software and other musical equipment.

For individual students, grants are given to help purchase instrumentsor musical equipment.
