Work Wise: Funding Watch - The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation

1 min read
What it is: The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a grant-making charity that provides funding for innovative projects in areas including the arts, education and social change. The foundation is Portuguese, but it has a UK branch that deals with grant applications from the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

How much is on offer: Grants only exceed £15,000 in exceptional circumstances.

What it will fund: Arts projects can apply for a grant from the foundation's Arts in Public Spaces scheme, which supports projects that present art in unconventional spaces. Education projects have a choice of two schemes that are suitable for schools and cross-cultural youth work projects. Social change projects are eligible for funding that promotes either financial inclusion or environmental awareness. Funding will not be supplied for equipment, building costs, basic services, sports or religious activities.

Who can apply: Not-for-profit organisations and registered charities are eligible to apply for funding. The foundation is most likely to support projects that are original and it favours activities that take place outside of London. Applications must include details of any proposed project, including a timetable and a budget. Applicants must also provide information about their organisational aims and sources of income.
