What will they fund? The fund has five programme areas: community support, community development, support to ethnic minorities, foundation of society and a strategic programme. The programme most immediately relevant to those working with young people is the foundations of society strand, with the aim "to build a better and stronger society by supporting initiatives particularly addressing issues around children and young people, the promotion of healthy living, and throughout the criminal justice system". It will support work to promote the interests of those between the ages of five and 25 in the community including citizenship, training and education and crime diversion. The community development strand may also be relevant for those organisations seeking help in the areas of infrastructure, governance, training and finance. Awards may be towards specific service provision or to cover core costs such as rent, salaries, training, infrastructure development and capacity building.
