Record breaking bunting; Yorkshire children break second record

Amy, 13, and Leon, 11, celebrate after they and 4,000 other children and young people from Calderdale, West Yorkshire, got into the record books for the second year running.

The children's first record was for creating the largest ever mosaicusing Smarties (Children Now, 3-9 May 2006). Now they are awaitingconfirmation that they have smashed the world record for the longestpiece of bunting. Colin Stout, the mayor of Calderdale, helped thechildren and young people put the flags together into a piece of buntingmeasuring an estimated 4,096 feet, well in excess of the previous recordof 3,541 feet. As well as fame and glory, the children also raised morethan 15,000 for the local special care baby unit by invitinglocal businesses to sponsor flags.
