1 min read
What do looked-after children and young people think about the proposals of the Care Matters green paper? The government offices of the South West and East Midlands wanted to know, so they commissioned NCB and the Myrtle Theatre Company to organise two days of drama-based activities to explore the main themes of the green paper and to find out what is really important to the children and young people that the paper most effects.

The 38 participants included children and young people aged betweeneight and 19 from residential children's units, care leavers living insupported accommodation, young parents, those living in foster care anda child being cared for by a family member.

Helen Chambers from NCB's Healthy Care Programme said: "The plan was topresent the content of Care Matters in an accessible and engaging waythrough a piece of specially devised theatre work. We wanted thechildren and young people to know that their opinions are valued, andthis was an excellent opportunity for them to get their voices heardlocally, regionally and nationally.

"The children and young people had the most to say about placements, inparticular, having a choice was seen as critical in ensuring childrenwere in the right placement.
