What Makes The Difference?, launched on Tuesday, 28 February with junioreducation minister Maria Eagle, is a multi-partnership project led byyoung people's charity Rainer, with funding from the European SocialFund Equal programme.
The project aims to understand and help overcome the factors that leadto poor educational and employment outcomes for looked-after youngpeople.
At present only 53 per cent of care leavers obtain one GCSE or GNVQ,compared to 95 per cent of all school children.
A team led by Catherine Shaw, NCB's assistant research director -evaluation, will be working in partnership with What Makes TheDifference? to undertake research and process evaluation, exploring whatworks and why, and investigating how the project is delivered.
