Volunteer's victory: National award for Yorkshire worker

Youth worker Kerry Briggs (second right) has won a national award for her work with young people. Nationwide Building Society singled out Briggs, who is a volunteer, for her work with young people aged 11 to 17 from the Army Air Corps' Dishforth youth club in north Yorkshire. Briggs, who won the best community ambassador award, helps organise talks by guest speakers on drug awareness and arranges outings to 10-pin bowling.

"It's draining looking after a bunch of boisterous young people, but they are enthusiastic," said Briggs, who is now undertaking training to develop the skills used working with young people.
