Pupils should be free to dine out

Education Health
Calls by the School Food Trust to keep pupils in schools during lunch breaks will cause resentment among young people, a 17-year-old Scout has warned.

Kirsty Wright, an explorer Scout from Harlow in Essex, slammed the trust after it said schools should adopt "stay on site" policies during lunch times to stop pupils buying junk food.

Wright said such a policy treats pupils like prisoners. "Watching what you eat is important, but so is getting outside and being active," she said.

The School Food Trust has released a guide to keeping pupils on site at lunch times to help schools considering the option.
