Pupils' wellbeing is set to be graded

1 min read Education
Ofsted is to grade schools on pupils' wellbeing using a small number of statistical indicators, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has announced.

Although a consultation on what measures Ofsted will use to inspect schools on wellbeing will start later this year, last week the DCSF suggested it was likely that participation in sport and attendance levels would be among the measures.

The government's proposals, set out in Schools' Role in Promoting Pupil Wellbeing, said the consultation would ask how best to use the views of pupils and parents in assessing schools.

Paul Ennals, chief executive of the National Children's Bureau, said: "It is right to place well-being at the heart of the schools' mission. But it would be unhelpful to produce crude league tables of wellbeing indicators."
