Junior schools minister Lord Andrew Adonis told peers last week that hisdepartment was examining how it could put in place better indicators formeasuring progress on safeguarding. He added: "We will commissionresearch into the scope for new performance indicators to drive theimprovement without introducing perverse incentives." Adonis said moreinformation would be available when the Government published itsresponse later this year to the joint chief inspectors report onsafeguarding children.
He also said the Government was considering whether children placed inchildren's homes needed more visits by local authority social workers.
