The four indicators will be tested by Bolton, Chelmsford, Kensington &Chelsea, Kirklees, Manchester and Bristol, Children Now can reveal.
They have been developed by the Children's Play Council (Children Now,1-7 March) and could form part of future performance assessments for allcouncils.
The tests will run over the next three to four months, and the playcouncil is developing guidance, which should be available by the end ofthis month.
"We've got a really good mix of authorities spread across England," saidpolicy and research officer Issy Cole-Hamilton.
"Some with rural and urban communities and some with very denselypopulated areas."
The indicators will assess issues like children's access to playprovision and how satisfied they are with it.
