NCB NOW: CPC 'delighted' by Play Review findings

1 min read
The Children's Play Council, based at NCB, warmly welcomed the Children's Play Review published by Frank Dobson MP last week.

Dobson's report, commissioned by the Government, set out recommendations on how 200m from the New Opportunities Fund should be allocated to play facilities around the country.

The report is based on evidence collated by Tim Gill, director of the Children's Play Council, who led the review while on secondment to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

The council particularly welcomed the recommendation that the funding should focus on areas with the poorest access to good quality play opportunities, with a major emphasis on the inclusion of disabled children and young people.

"We're delighted the Government is beginning to give children's play the recognition and priority it deserves," said Issy Cole-Hamilton, Children's Play Council policy officer. "Good play provision, offering children exciting things to do in their spare time, is not just vital for their own health and development - it can also be a force for community regeneration."
