PROJECT NOTES: Peckham Youth Training Initiative

1 min read

Goals: Provides training for young people aged 16 to 19 in the London Borough of Southwark

Funding: Peckham Youth Training Initiative is part of Southwark's youth and Connexions service. Funding comes through Southwark Council

Switching from life in Peckham, south London, to a summer camp in the eastern US can be quite a culture shock. But the young people from Peckham Youth Training Initiative who work as counsellors through the Camp America scheme return to the UK with their horizons widened.

The initiative provides youth work or play work training for young people in the area. This includes training to achieve nationally recognised sports coaching awards, including those from the Football Association and the English Basketball Association. It also provides specialist training in arts and media such as CD production and video work.
