Not many youth clubs could boast a state-of-the-art gym that rivals the local David Lloyd Leisure club. But not many youth clubs have had 5m to spend on a purpose-built youth centre.
"You have to see it to believe it," says Jeremy Glover, chief executive of Bolton Lads' and Girls' Club. "We've got chill-out zones, football pitches, basketball courts - pretty much the lot. You couldn't really compare it to the 19th-century mill we had before."
