Bolton Lads & Girls model to be replicated across the North West

1 min read Youth Work
A much-hailed youth centre in Bolton that offers young people a raft of things to do is to develop five similar clubs across the North West.

Bolton Lads & Girls Club, described in the government strategy Aiming High for Young People as one of the country's best quality youth services, plans to replicate its model in Blackburn, Carlisle, Oldham and two other locations over the next five years. It is setting up a charity in partnership with the local authority and the private sector to attract funds for the new centres.

Each centre is expected to cost £3m and will provide arts, sports and leisure activities and advice and support services. The centres will work closely with councils, primary care trusts, voluntary organisations and funding bodies. It is hoped initial funding will be provided by the youth capital fund, managed via the Big Lottery Fund.
