Delegates who had digested these developments could now share their feelings and network with other workers and managers from across the UK. They heard youth minister Beverley Hughes' overall policy vision, contributions from Tom Wylie at The National Youth Agency, children and young people's services specialists such as Jane Haywood at the Children's Workforce Development Council, and inspirational tales from Jeremy Glover, chief executive of Bolton Lads and Girls Club.
The mood was one of "guarded optimism". People are pleased the sector is under the spotlight, but mindful of Jane Haywood's warning that it won't last forever. Sector rivalries need to be put aside to ensure young people are top of the agenda.
