A Cabinet Office spokesman said last week that the future of the unit was "under review" as ministers decide what form of specialist backup Armstrong should draw on and where the unit should be located. "There's still work under way in refining details about where various parts of the machinery of government will sit," he said. The spokesman was unable to say when a decision would be made.
The uncertainty throws into question how departments can be held to account following the unit's publication last November of Transitions - Young Adults with Complex Needs, a report with 27 cross-governmental action points to improve support for 16- to 25-year-olds.
