A member of a youth offending team tells how she ensured a vulnerable young person was placed according to need rather than age.
The name of a local boy was well known to us since he had a string of previous convictions and community penalties under his belt. But despite this track record, we knew little about the boy personally.
At the age of 16, he was a passenger in a stolen car with three other youths. The car was involved in an incident, which led to the death of another person. As a result, all four of them were remanded in custody for six months at a young offenders' institution.
