I'd worked with this young boy previously to get him into anafter-school club, but he and his mother were also looking for a schemefor the holiday period. We found a place at a nearby scheme.
At first it went really well, he was in the under-eights group and wasaccompanied by a support worker to get him settled in. However, itbecame clear that the only activity he needed a support worker for wasswimming.
The problems started though when it was time to move to the oldergroup.
Some weeks before the sessions were due to start I met with the schememanager who verbally agreed supervision was only needed forswimming.
