You are asked to admit a child with severe behavioural problems to your after-school setting but are convinced she will pose a risk to other children.

A manager of an after-school club explains how she handled the situation, going against the advice of a local inclusion team.

I run an after-school club based at a primary school and was recently approached by the mother of a child with severe behavioural problems, who wanted her daughter to join.

The girl was a pupil at the school and, as a governor, I was aware of her unpredictable and very often violent behaviour.

Some of the children in the club were being bullied by her at school and when they learned she might join they were upset. Word spread among parents, who were also concerned.
