When a teacher taps a boisterous pupil on the head with a sheaf ofpapers, she is accused of hitting the child by his mother. She explainshow her headteacher supported her and stopped a minor incident turninginto a serious situation that could have damaged her career.
I was teaching a large class of Year 5s and 6s and in it was a boy who'darrived midway through the year. He was from a single parent family andalthough sweet, was extremely boisterous. He just would not stoptalking.
I got on very well him in general but he could be exasperating. On oneoccasion I was trying to marshal the class onto a coach for a trip andhe was talking constantly. I was holding a sheaf of papers and I touchedhim on the back of his head with them and said: "If you don't put a sockin it, we're never going to go."
