THE DILEMMA

A local authority is determined to move a boy out of a privateresidential care home, but it is not what the child wants. The managerof the home explains how he ensured the boy's needs weren't ignored.

One problem we encounter is the conflict between the private and publicsector, which has the power to move children out of our care.

Sometimes when local authorities move children out of care it causes adilemma. In one case we had a boy sent to our home from a localauthority in another county. He was morbidly obese when he came to us.We worked with him on his behavioural problems and his behaviourstabilised. He had just started to settle down when the local authoritycame along said "thanks, you did a good job so we're now going to sendhim back home".
