Winners of the competition, which is open to secondary school pupils aged 13 to 16, will get to attend the first J8 Summit in July next year to produce a communique on how they would change the world, which will be presented to the leaders of the G8 countries.
Entrants in the J8 Summit Competition, run through schools, need to draw up proposals to tackle either climate change or the problems faced by Africa.
The competition has been jointly organised by the Department for Education and Skills and the Morgan Stanley International Foundation.
Children and families minister Lord Filkin said the Government hoped to allow winners to present their communique at next year's G8 summit in Scotland.
