Parliament: All-party group probes youth disengagement

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Youth Affairs held the first of a series of meetings on issues faced by young people this week. Further meetings will follow after the summer recess, with the aim of producing a report with policy recommendations.

Jo Field, policy and parliamentary officer at the British Youth Council, which runs the secretariat of the group, said the idea is to give it a more strategic focus.

The first meeting looked at black young people in the criminal justice system, following on from the Home Affairs Select Committee inquiry on the same theme. Later meetings will address other issues to do with disadvantaged young people.
