The last chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Youth Affairs was Ed Miliband, the MP for Doncaster North, who had to step down from the role after being promoted from the backbenches to the Cabinet Office in last month's reshuffle.
Butler said she was keen to take on the role. "When I was elected last year I said that young people would have a voice through me," she said.
"I want young people to feel that they are more involved in the political process. I want them to feel that there is a role for them to get involved in decision-making for the Labour Government."
