Parenting texts cost 213 each

A text message service designed to inform and support parents has been scrapped after costing the government more than 460,000.

The Parent Know How: Telephone Helplines and Innovation Fund Strands study revealed each text message sent to parents under the service had cost more than £200.

The report said the service "struggled to attract users", reaching just 2,178 parents at a cost of £213.83 each between March and December 2008.

It also revealed that the service suffered from "insufficient marketing".
