Funding Watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Parent support groups get 6m

1 min read
Parenting helplines are to benefit from more than 6.1m in government funding, children's minister Margaret Hodge has announced.

Parentline Plus will receive almost 5m to provide a first point of call for parents, while other funding will go to specialist helplines that advise on issues such as family and education law and social welfare.

Dorit Braun, chief executive of Parentline Plus, said the cash would enable the voluntary organisation to continue helping some of the most vulnerable parents.

She said: "We have been long wanting to expand what we currently offer on the telephone to parents, because it's an accessible route in areas where there is very little local provision."

The money will allow the group to increase the number of calls it deals with, and fund an email service and extra counselling sessions.
