ENGLAND
Palliative care in England is generally delivered by hospices or at home with community nurses. However, palliative care is set for an overhaul after the government published its first-ever strategy to improve the services seriously ill children receive (CYP Now, 20-26 February, 2008).
Better Care: Better Lives was published last week and includes a £20m cash boost for hospices. The money will extend a current £27m grant for children's hospices and hospice at home care from 2009 until 2011. The strategy aims for local authorities to improve services for terminally ill children, with the government calling on councils and the NHS to work together to improve and expand services.
