Boost for palliative care in Scotland

1 min read Health Social Care
Scotland is creating the first consultant children's palliative care nurses to co-ordinate work with terminally ill children across the country.

Four new consultant positions, which have been created following soundings with palliative care staff, will work on a local, regional and national level.

The Scottish Government is funding the posts for two years through the Diana Nurse allocated money, which is given to nursing projects in memory of Princess Diana.

The post-holders for children and young people with life- limiting conditions will have the chance to consult on and co-ordinate work. They will also build up partnerships between acute, community and children's hospice facilities.

The posts, which are being advertised through NHS Scotland, will be based at NHS Lothian, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, NHS Tayside and NHS Grampian.
