1 min read Health
Guidelines are to be issued to health organisations and local authorities throughout the UK in an attempt to boost the quality of children's palliative care.

Following the publication of strategies on how life-limited childrenshould be cared for in the UK, the Association for Children's PalliativeCare (ACT) has drawn up a list of 10 action points.

Katrina McNamara-Goodger, head of policy and practice at ACT, said the"quality markers" are designed to challenge service commissioners andhelp them achieve better provision for children.

They call for local action plans to be in place to ensure high-qualitypalliative care is provided and state that 24-hour services should beavailable to children and young people approaching the end of theirlives.

They also call for effective mechanisms to be in place so that childrenand young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions areidentified from the point of diagnosis.
