
The Palliative Care Funding Review, which was ordered by Health Secretary Andrew Lansley last year, calls for funding to follow the patient through an NHS palliative care tariff.
This would focus funding on the needs of the patient, rather than based on the type of condition or whether they are nearing the end of their life.
In a joint statement, Children’s Hospices UK and palliative care group ACT said this is especially important for children with life-threatening conditions who deteriorate over a number of years.
ACT chief executive Lizzie Chambers said: "This review has real potential to improve the support and care that children with life-limiting conditions and their families get."
