Out-of-school education: DfES school trip plans unveiled

The Government this week published its manifesto on education outside the classroom.

The Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto says every young person upto the age of 19 should experience learning outside the classroom and isbacked by 2.7m for schools. It will also result in the formationof an independent council to promote education outside theclassroom.

A Department for Education and Skills' spokeswoman told Children Nowthat venues could include museums and farms.

Kevin Jackson, chair of the Association of Heads of Outdoor EducationCentres, said: "The manifesto will help greatly in enabling a widerunderstanding of this approach to learning."
