Sounds like we need to define "education out of the classroom".
Indeed, that is the key question. Fortunately we have a wide and unambiguous definition that places youth work activities as a core educational experience.
Hurrah! Chapter and verse please.
The consultation defines education outside the classroom as "any structured learning experiences out of a classroom environment during the school day, after school or during the holiday for three- to 19-year-olds. It not only involves activities linked to schools, but also those run by youth groups, voluntary organisations and private providers".
Well that's promising. So why do we need a manifesto? A Parliamentary select committee looked at the issue last year and found that education outside the classroom was extremely valuable for honing academic achievement and soft skills, particularly of course for hard-to-reach young people.
