The Education Outside the Classroom manifesto aims to provide a framework for getting more outdoor education into the school experience.
Proposals include integrating outdoor education into extended schools and the Youth Matters green paper, joined-up work between schools, local authorities, local providers and organisations such as the National Trust, along with the creation of a common standard of provision.
Schools should also give young people a range of high-quality experiences, including one residential and work with external providers.
Funding for providers to work with schools is one area that still needs to be addressed, said Harry Whelan, community sports development officer at the Jubilee Outdoor Education Centre in Camden.
