Hang on. If they are so gifted and talented, surely they'll have deep and well-founded reservations about this chance of a lifetime. From a purely practical point of view, once you've had the chance of a lifetime, that's it. No-one gets two. The point was emphasised by Stephen Twigg, schools minister. He said: "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity ..." (see p5).
No-one would dream of underestimating the good fun young people are going to have hanging around with notables from RADA and the National Theatre. Even so, there is surely a fatal flaw. If anyone, especially a talented young person, is going to use up their one and only lifetime chance, aren't they going to expect a bit more excitement than a four-week summer workshop?
